City review

Medellín is a captivating city, not only for its pleasant climate (around 24 °C throughout the year); but also, for the kindness of its people, it’s delicious food, and that charm of the country that makes visitors fall in love.

The peasant humor of the inhabitants of Medellín, reflected in the Antioquia “trovas,” the typical dances and, in general, paisa culture, mixed with the hectic life of the metropolis. No mountain or river can intimidate the people from Antioquia, who have one of the most prolific territories in the country, with large companies and growth in all sectors.

Medellín’s climate, mountainous landscape, spectacular panoramic views, and green spaces make city tours a fantastic experience.

Places like the Botanical Garden, the “Pies Descalzos” Park, the “Parque Berrío” and the “Parque Lleras” are places that you cannot miss.

The same goes for the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Antioquia, dedicated in a good portion to the work of the Colombian master Fernando Botero, whose sculptures adorn many areas of the city.

In addition, Medellín has the “Parque Explora,” an interactive science and technology museum where children and adults can learn and play in a fantastic place. Nearby are the Planetarium and the “Parque de los deseos.”

In Medellín, there are also plenty of shopping malls, such as “El Tesoro” or “Santafé,” where you can buy all the things you may need and where you will be able to enjoy a wide variety of restaurants, another great plan is to enjoy the typical food of the region, such as buñuelos, mondongo, and the mythical bandeja paisa.

And if you want to enjoy the night, El Poblado has a wide range of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs.

If you want something to do in Medellín, the city has something for you, no matter who you travel with. Families and all travelers, in general, find many options for fun and entertainment throughout the city.

Likewise, it is a great plan to go to places like “Pueblito Paisa,” a replica of a typical town in the region located on top of the Cerro Nutibara.

Medellín is a city that opens its doors so that you can learn about its impressive transformation and how it has become an example of development and innovation. Therefore, if you visit the city, consider the “Graffiti Tour” in the Comuna 13, which is a must. On this tour, you will discover a young and renewed Medellín that, through music and graffiti, has found new ways to express itself and to live in peace.

It is also worth enjoying the “Parque Arvi” and places on the outskirts, such as Guatapé, where the famous “Piedra del Peñol” is located.

What to expect from the city

• Medellín is known as the 'City of Eternal Spring' for the pleasant weather it presents all year round. So, you can generally wear spring-summer clothes and add a light jacket. Of course, do not forget to use sunscreen, even on rainy days.

• You can get to the city by land or air. Medellín has two airports: Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport (located in the west of the city) and the airport Internacional José María Córdova, in Rionegro (located approximately 50 minutes from Medellín). Keep in mind this information to schedule your trips to and from the airport and avoid delays.

• To explore the city, we recommend the use of the Metro system and its integrated transport routes. You can also use Uber, taxis, Cabify, etc.

• The area where the centers of Inser (El Poblado neighborhood) is located is also one of the main hotel areas in Medellin. We recommend you to stay in a hotel near the clinic to facilitate your travel.

• The city has hotels and hostels for everyone, with a great variety in prices, so find the best option according to your preferred area.

• If you need to change dollars, we recommend you go to recognized exchange houses, such as Western Union or Easy Money. Remember to also withdraw your money in safe areas to avoid theft and other mishaps.

• In the area you can find quality stays that will facilitate your trip to Medellin-in the so-called “peak hours” (between 7 and 9 am and between 5 and 7 pm) the traffic of Medellín and its metropolitan area is usually dense. Schedule your exits in advance to avoid delays.

• For the rest, keep in mind the typical recommendations of big cities: take with you only the amount of money you will need during the day, preferably pay in local currency, learn the routes of the city's well-developed integrated transport system, which has the "metro," and, in case of requesting a taxi, do so by calling recognized companies or using their apps.

• Keep in mind that mountains and beautiful landscapes surround Medellín, which has many activities for excursion and hiking tourism, so do not forget to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to enjoy all the alternatives that the capital of Antioquia offers you and its surroundings.
